While most copywriters leaf through advertising award books, Gopal roams through the streets of Mumbai with a camera in hand looking for insights.
A chef by training, Gopal fell in love with advertising at the start of the new millennium. He has since worked at Leo Burnett where he did one of the most successful campaigns for McDonald’s (Humare Zamane Ka Daam); at McCann, where he launched an autorickshaw for TVS. And at Ogilvy, where he helped reposition Star Plus Channel in 2009. To see some of his past work, click here.
Gopal has worked with some of the best minds in the business, and he believes that advertising shouldn’t be inspired by creative fads. Ideas work best when they are born from genuine insights on how people use and relate to brands, products and services.
Gopal is also an award-winning street photographer and has been nominated Best Online Photojournalist at the inaugural TS Sathyan Memorial Photojournalism Awards for his ongoing photography project titled Mumbai Paused which documents life in the big city.
